The Truth About Indoor Air

By Rebecca Anderson

It's easy to believe that indoor air is better than outdoor air. After all, factories, cars, and all the biggest pollutants in the world dump their harmful emissions into the open air, making the air outside filthier than indoor air, right?

What many of us don't realize though is the fact that we have lots of pollutants indoors, particularly inside our homes. Considering the much smaller space, experts believe indoor air can actually be more polluted than the air outside.

Signs of poor IAQ
If you think about the many things that take place within your home, then the idea of indoor air being worse wouldn't be so far-fetched.

Common causes of poor IAQ (indoor air quality)

Do you cook your food using a gas-fired stove or oven? Does your home feel warm in the winter thanks to a furnace powered by fuel combustion? If the answer to both is yes, then there’s an ever-present danger of carbon monoxide contamination inside your home.

Pet dander can also affect your indoor air quality as well.

Are there any smokers in your house? If you let them indulge inside your home, you can expect thousands of harmful toxins polluting your indoor air with every puff they take.

Even something as simple as using air fresheners or deodorants in aerosol cans can pollute the air inside your home. It is even worse if you use bug spray regularly to deal with critters within your walls.

What about air conditioning?

An AC system can be a source of pollution; particularly when its refrigerant, a chemical, leaks out. In the event of that happening, it is recommended to get the services of air conditioning repair professionals right away when that happens.

Air Purifiers

Air filtration systems both industrial, and consumer models are the absolute best compliment to a functioning ventilation system since ventilation systems only bring in fresh air into a home, but do not clean the air once it is inside. Any type of actions performed indoors to contribute to air particles being released indoors can best be eliminated by a dedicated air cleaner. Learn more by clicking here.
